Cotswold Hotel Booking Trends: Location is Key!

17th October 2018

If you’re looking for a UK getaway that has beautiful scenery, plenty of choices for eating out, and easy access for days out and things to do, the Cotswolds should definitely be on your list of destinations to consider. A certified Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) for over 50 years, this pretty section of English countryside has lots to offer its guests. Along with quaint village scenes and rolling green sheep-strewn hills, there’s fine cuisine, culture and friendly country pubs galore!

A UK getaway that covers all the bases

The Cotswolds covers over 2000 square kilometres, and encompasses parts of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Worcestershire and Warwickshire. The area is popular with commuters to London, who invest in second homes in the countryside, and with anyone who wants to spend some idyllic time exploring rural Britain. Pretty villages are in abundance, featuring striking buildings made from the distinctive Cotswold stone. Visitors can spend time browsing the numerous antique and gift shops, or sample the wares of the many high quality eateries, or opt for a simple and traditional pint of locally brewed ale.

For those who like to be active, the Cotswolds is the ideal location for a walking or mountain biking holiday. There are many stunning trails suitable for all abilities, with plenty of places to stop and refuel along the route. If culture is high on your agenda, you’ll be pleased to know that the Cotswolds is within easy reach of some of the UK’s best known small cities of culture, including Cheltenham, Worcester, Oxford and Bath.

We asked 400 people what they look for when booking a hotel in the Cotswolds

Whatever your plans for spending time in this beautiful and tranquil part of the world, there is also plenty of choice available when it comes to hotels and accommodation options in the Cotswolds. From boutique hotels to a self-catering cottage or a room in an inn or tavern, you’re spoiled for choice whether you’re staying for a single night or several weeks. Not surprisingly, the results of our survey showed that when it comes to Cotswolds hotel accommodation options, location is everything…

Over 30% of our respondents said that a peaceful location in the countryside was their top priority, giving this important aspect far more significance than even the most impressive hotel facilities and ‘extras’. A rural short break or weekend away is all about tranquillity, beautiful scenery and a spot of luxury, which is definitely reflected in the answers we received; similar numbers of people said that a room with a view and quality food and drink is important to them, suggesting that chilling out and spending time relaxing with their loved ones is high on the agenda.

Tellingly, the results of our survey also showed that hotels and guesthouses need to work hard to stay competitive, with 15% of visitors to the Cotswolds placing cost as a significant factor when choosing where to stay. Special offers and discounts can make all the difference, especially if the accommodation in question also benefits from the other key priorities, which also include close proximity to tourist attractions, access to a health club, gym or spa, and an onsite golf course.

Tewkesbury Park, exceeding expectations in every aspect

Tewkesbury Park is proud to say that we offer each and every one of the priorities that our survey participants think are most important when choosing a hotel in the Cotswolds. As a family-owned hotel, we offer our guests a tailored experience, where quality is everything. Many of our guests choose to spend their stay with us soaking up the luxury experience in our stylish rooms, lingering over freshly cooked, locally-sourced delicacies, or making the most of our other outstanding facilities. For those who wish to venture outside, our location puts us within a short journey of Tewkesbury Abbey, Cheltenham Racecourse, the medieval market town of Chipping Campden and the breathtaking Cotswolds Open Gardens, amongst many other fabulous days out.

We have a number of fantastic offers and special events available to help you enjoy your trip to the Cotswolds in style. Whether you join us for a seasonal break or another occasion, we look forward to welcoming you to the Cotswolds and Tewkesbury Park.
